Our newest home just got a little bigger
Not too long ago we told you about the third set of homes we were opening to house Ukrainian refugees. We said it would be a race to completely finish the new space and begin welcoming new residents. Well, the race has been run and we won.
A few short days ago our amazing team of volunteers completed a marathon in a sprint and finished the work on the second floor in our newest hotel—and we did it just in the nick of time. A day after the last room was finished the first two guests arrived on May 7 (well, technically a giant stuffed teddy bear was the first to move in and has claimed the sofa as his own).
Our Rynek hotel can now house some 40 people and we will need every room, every bed, every desk and every shelf.
In just a week, the floor transformed from a collection of boxes and tools (and a tricky water leak) to a home—a safe place to help those in need. Our volunteers are simply amazing. We can’t thank them enough, but special thanks go out to Olena Mykhaliovska and Marina Klyushnyk for their continued dedication. We simply could not do it all without them (and there is always more to do…Marina’s phone never stops ringing).
And a very special thanks is owed to @ikeakrakow for their generous donations of beds, bedding, storage shelves, clothes racks, food containers and so much more.
But there will always be more work to be done and more people to help. We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider making a donation to help people in need.
